Recycling Guide
It's Easy
By separating compostable and recyclable materials, you can save money on your trash bill. By following the simple suggestions on this website, more than half of your trash can be diverted from disposal at the Transfer Station.
Saves You Money
Recycling can save you money in several ways. Used motor oil is worth 40 cents per gallon at many locations throughout the County. Recycling and brush recovery also reduce your garbage disposal costs. The more materials you can separate for recycling or brush recovery, the less material you have to pay to dispose. Finally, reuse, repair and composting can save money by reducing expenses for soil amendments, fertilizers, and new products.
Good for the Earth
Recycling reduces our impact on the environment in crucial ways. Every time we rethink, reduce, reuse, and recycle, we reduce the impacts of mining, extracting, and processing. All recycled materials have a lower overall environmental impact than the same products made from virgin materials. For example, it takes one gallon of used oil to produce the same amount of motor oil as 42 gallons of crude while using one-third the energy.
It's The Law
Under California law, commercial businesses must have some kind of recycling program. California's Commercial Recycling Mandate applies to all multi-family residential properties with five or more units and any commercial or public entity that generates four cubic yards or 880 pounds or more of solid waste and recyclable or compostable materials per week. For more information, contact the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority at (707) 465-1100.
Overview Of Recycling Materials
